Bonjour à tous, comment se sont passées vos vacances ? Que vous soyez partis en voyage ou non, j’espère que vous avez pu vous détendre un peu, ou peut-être étiez-vous en mouvement. Quoi qu’il en soit, cela m’importe peu, haha, je plaisante !
Commençons cette nouvelle saison d' »actualité rock d’Asie » avec un départ dynamique mettant en vedette DURAN, un artiste solo japonais. Merci à mon ami Nao, qui est japonais, de m’avoir fait découvrir sa musique. En passant, DURAN était en France, plus précisément dans le nord du pays. Il s’est produit à Lille le 17 Août, qui est l’enregistrement du podcast ci-dessous, et son prochain concert aura lieu dans quelques jours, le 24 Août à Arras.
Mais avant de plonger dans le vif du sujet, faisons les présentations. Comme je l’ai mentionné précédemment, il est japonais, mais son histoire ne s’arrête pas là. Sa mère est espagnole et philippine, tandis que son père est japonais. Il a commencé à jouer du piano à l’âge de 3 ans, et suivant les traces de son père (qui était bassiste), il a également appris à jouer de la basse vers l’âge de 14 ans.
Avant de lancer sa carrière solo, il était déjà actif dans la scène musicale de Tokyo, faisant partie de divers groupes et travaillant également comme guitariste sur d’autres projets. Vous pouvez découvrir tout cela sur Spotify et YouTube, mais venons-en au fait.
Aujourd’hui, nous allons écouter son dernier single sorti le 16 août, intitulé « Moldy Chips« . C’est la une de l’actualité, alors plongeons dans l' »actualité rock d’Asie » et RSTLSS ensemble.
Passons maintenant à la chanson… Nous sommes toujours sur RSTLSS et « Actualité rock d’Asie« . Nous venons d’écouter « Moldy Chips » du chanteur philippino-japonais Duran. Et comme on dit, « Je suis conquis, je suis conquis », lol, pour ceux qui comprennent la référence, haha (d’une célèbre émission de danse télévisée).
« Moldy Chips » est le deuxième single d’un futur album intitulé « Electric Man« . Le premier single, « Real Eyes« , est sorti le 19 juillet, et il est assez différent du deuxième. Le travail vocal varie, mais les deux singles sont énergiques et orientés rock, avec une touche de funk, un peu à la manière de Chris Cornell, qu’il repose en paix.
Duran ne sort pas seulement un album cette année, mais deux. Voilà ce que j’appelle la productivité. Son manager m’a informé que le deuxième album aura une ambiance plus bluesy et s’intitulera « 30 Scratchy Backroad Blues« .
Duran est un artiste polyvalent, un joyau, je dois dire. Il nous offre une gamme diversifiée de sons et d’influences. Chacun de ces singles est accompagné de versions remixées. « Real Eyes » a deux remixes, et « Moldy Chips » a une version appelée « Relay Mode« , un peu difficile à décrire – je vous laisse le juger. C’est un peu délirant et intense en même temps, avec les percussions à l’honneur.

Hello everyone, how were your holidays ? Whether you went on a trip or not, I hope you were able to relax and unwind a bit, or maybe you were on the move. Anyway, I don’t really care, haha, just kidding !
Let’s kick off this new season of « actualité rock d’Asie » with a dynamic start featuring Duran, a Japanese solo artist. Thanks to my friend Nao, who’s Japanese, for introducing me to his music. By the way, Duran is currently in France, specifically in the northern part. He performed in Lille on the 17th, which is today as we’re recording, and his next show is in a few days on the 24th in Arras.
But before we dive in, let’s introduce him. As I mentioned earlier, he’s Japanese, but there’s more to his background. His mother is Spanish and Filipino, while his father is Japanese. He started playing the piano at the age of 3, and following in his father’s footsteps (since his dad was a bassist), he also learned to play the bass around the age of 14.
Before launching his solo career, he was already active in the Tokyo music scene, being part of various bands and also working as a guitarist on other projects. You can check out all of that on Spotify and YouTube, but let’s get to the point here.
Today, we’re going to listen to his latest single released on August 16th, titled « Moldy Chips » It’s right at the top of the news, so let’s dive in with the « actualité rock d’Asie » and RSTLSS together.
Now moving on to the track… We’re still on RSTLSS and « Actualité rock d’Asie ». We just listened to « Moldy Chips » by the Filipino-Japanese singer Duran. And as the saying goes, « I’m sold, I’m sold, » lol, for those who get the reference, haha (from a famous tv dancing competition).
« Moldy Chips » is the second single from an upcoming album called « Electric Man » The first single, « Real Eyes » was released on July 19th, and it’s quite different from the second one. The vocal work varies, but both singles are energetic and rock-oriented, with a touch of funk, somewhat reminiscent of Chris Cornell, may he rest in peace.
Duran isn’t just releasing one album this year, but two. Now that’s what I call being productive. His manager informed me that the second album will have more of a bluesy vibe and will be titled « 30 Scratchy Backroad Blues ».
Duran is a versatile artist, a gem, I must say. He brings us a diverse range of sounds and influences. Each of these singles comes with remix versions. « Real Eyes » has two remixes, and « Moldy Chips » has a version called « Relay Mode » which is a bit hard to describe – I’ll leave it up to you to judge. It’s kind of wacky and intense at the same time, with the drums taking the spotlight.
