PLASTIC DOME – SMALL TALKS titre issu de leur 1er EP SMALL TALKS sorti le 22.09.2023.
Ce soir Pierre ce n’est pas le Grand Débat mais le moment des petites discussions entre amis qui peuvent mener cahin-caha, Molla Molla, à faire entrer notre Nouveauté RocK Française, la 112e, dans le cercle grandissant de nos R.E.V.E.L.A.T.I.O.N. de notre Belle Scène RocK Français.
Côté bio :
SMALL TALKS est un groupe originaire de Saint-Etienne et Villeurbanne, formé en 2022. Il est composé d’Antoine au chant (précisément au lead vocal) et à la guitare, de Renaud à la guitare et aux chœurs, de Jean-Luc alias Jil à la basse et de Fabrice à la batterie et aux chœurs.
De ce qu’on peut dire c’est qu’ils en ont eu des petites discussions entre amis…Antoine aura été membre de THE ELASTIC HEADS, THE HORSEBITES (Garage RocK – Lyon), d’ISRAEL REGARDIE (cold wave postpunk – Lyon), de MAN IN BOX (Synth pop Lyon), de LE PARTI. Quant à Jil il a été membre de THE OFF-KEYZ (Indie British Rock – St Etienne), de RESISTENZA (Indie RocK – St Etienne) et de PANIC PARTY (Garage Rock – St Etienne). Fabrice a été membre de PANIC PARTY.

Côté concert :
- Mai 2023 au Pub Le Bodega à St Etienne après avoir été sélectionné pour le Festival Paroles de Zinc – Festival organisé dans les Bars de St Etienne.

- Septembre 2023 : à Entre Pots où on fait des SMALL TALKS c’est bien connu, c’était à St Etienne.

- 1er EP éponyme SMALL TALKS sorti le 22.09.2023 et enregistré au JAVA CLUB, nouveau studio d’enregistrement à Villeurbanne qui œuvre depuis fin 2022.
- Trêve de SMALL TALKS, entrons sans plus attendre dans le débat de SMALL TALKS.
CHEEKS TO CHEEKS (joues à joues) : Un titre bardé de fuzz, couvert de « come on » bien balancés, bien ronronnants comme des « come on de Fugazi » d’un Closed Captioned, un titre bien rock, bien rythmé, un peur four guys in the wind, un peu THE KINKS, mais également ROUGEMONT côté scène RocK Française.
VISIONS : Un titre superbe, une belle mélodie, colorée, avec une voix nous rappelant celle de Pete Doherty dans ce côté authentique et sans artifices, et puis quand celle-ci est entraînée par les strings et cordes des guitares on se retrouve dans des univers proches de THE KILLERS et de l’insouciance de WEEZER notamment sous l’effet des chœurs, la douceur de ce titre nous laisse également percevoir un petit côté new wave, on pensera à POPPY CLUB et son Miracle (The).
POLLUTION OF MIND : Une pépite de fougue sonore, des embruns de Penny Wise et de NOFX, mais en plus mélodieux, et ces voix qui donnent du corps à ce titre, qui est vrombissant, il est frissonnant, voire un peu frénétique, un très bon titre qui va crescendo, ce titre est marqué par un fuzz enivrant très efficace, il aurait pu être le titre de ce soir.
THE DESCENT : Encore une belle mélodie, qui ne rappelle pas le film sans retour THE DESCENT, ce titre est tout simplement beau avec une partie instrumentale très bien composée, puis cela monte comme le volcan qui sommeille dans les Vulcano Sessions, antre et temple du stoner. Quand les voix rejoignent la partie instrumentale, que les guitares accélèrent, que la batterie monte le rythme, se titre devient excitant, jouissif, il y a une belle impression de grunge et de fuzz très accrocheurs, comme un millésimé de FU MANCHU.
DROPPED OUT : Autre titre qui marque également une belle cadence, c’est très rock, voire un peu punk à ses entournures.
PLASTIC DOME un titre pour se détendre, et non pour se faire tirer le visage ou le portrait, un titre pour faire sauter le Dogme du Plastic, dédiées à tous les addicts à la chirurgie esthétique.
PLASTIC DOME : Renaud est au chant sur les couplets, et c’est Antoine qui embraye de sa voix sur les refrains, ce qui donne une belle impression de variation de rythmes, une belle dynamique, comme une battle joueuse, c’est très entraînant. Un titre qui démarre pied au plancher, un pulse garage rock d’excellence, un début de titre un peu Arctic pour faire fondre la glace des Monkeys, une verve explosive sans The, mais pour autant avec The de The Hives, car PLASTIC DOME est morceau tonique, où la pulpe ne reste en bas. Ce titre a du ressort, et aidera dans bien des cas à partir du bon pied dès le matin, il est rageur et superbement cadencé, il est digne du répertoire THE BUXOM BLADE (autre R.E.V.E.L.A.T.I.O.N.). On sera enthousiasmé par ces effets de guitare, et cette batterie qui lorsqu’elle s’élève ajoute à la brillance de ce titre, bagarreur, savoureux, une belle sensation RocK !

Tonight, Pierre, it’s not the Great Debate, but a moment of small discussions among friends that might gradually lead, bit by bit, to introduce our 112th French Rock Newcomer into the ever-expanding circle of our R.E.V.E.L.A.T.I.O.N. in our beautiful French Rock Scene.
Regarding the band’s background :
SMALL TALKS is a group originating from Saint-Étienne and Villeurbanne, formed in 2022. The band consists of Antoine on vocals (specifically lead vocals) and guitar, Renaud on guitar and backing vocals, Jean-Luc, aka Jil, on bass, and Fabrice on drums and backing vocals.
What we can say is that they’ve had quite a few small discussions among friends. Antoine has been a member of THE ELASTIC HEADS, THE HORSEBITES (Garage Rock – Lyon), ISRAEL REGARDIE (cold wave post-punk – Lyon), MAN IN BOX (Synth pop – Lyon), and LE PARTI. - Their debut self-titled EP « SMALL TALKS » was released on September 22, 2023, and it was recorded at JAVA CLUB, a new recording studio in Villeurbanne that has been operating since late 2022.
Enough about SMALL TALKS; let’s dive right into the discussion about SMALL TALKS.
« CHEEKS TO CHEEKS »: A song laden with fuzz, filled with well-balanced « come ons, » reminiscent of Fugazi’s « come ons » from Closed Captioned. It’s a rocking and well-paced song, a bit like « four guys in the wind, » somewhat resembling THE KINKS, but also leaning towards ROUGEMONT in the French Rock scene.
« VISIONS »: A superb track with a beautiful, colorful melody. The vocals remind us of Pete Doherty, offering authenticity without artifice. When the vocals are carried by the strings and guitar chords, it transports us into universes reminiscent of THE KILLERS and the carefree attitude of WEEZER, especially with the addition of the backing vocals. The gentle nature of this track also reveals a touch of new wave, bringing to mind POPPY CLUB and their song « Miracle (The). »
« POLLUTION OF MIND »: A sonic gem, featuring hints of Pennywise and NOFX, but with more melody. The voices add substance to this track, which is buzzing and thrilling, even a bit frenetic. It’s an excellent song that builds up to a crescendo. It’s marked by an intoxicating fuzz that’s highly effective. It could have been the track of the night.
« THE DESCENT »: Another beautiful melody, which doesn’t remind us of the unrecoverable film « The Descent. » This track is simply beautiful, with a well-composed instrumental part. As it builds up, it becomes exciting and joyous, with a strong impression of grunge and catchy fuzz. It’s akin to a vintage FU MANCHU track.
« DROPPED OUT »: Another track that sets a lively pace. It’s very rock, bordering on punk at times.
« PLASTIC DOME »: A track to relax to, not for getting your face or portrait lifted. It’s dedicated to all the plastic surgery enthusiasts.
« PLASTIC DOME »: Renaud takes the lead on the verses, and Antoine’s vocals come in on the choruses, providing a delightful variation in rhythms. It’s dynamic and somewhat playful, like a competitive battle. The song is highly engaging, starting with a strong garage rock pulse. The beginning of the song has a bit of an Arctic Monkeys feel, but without « The, » yet it’s still a bit like The Hives. « PLASTIC DOME » is a dynamic track, with a lot of energy, and it’s bound to get you started on the right foot in the morning. It’s a spirited and superbly paced track, worthy of THE BUXOM BLADE’s repertoire (another R.E.V.E.L.A.T.I.O.N.). The guitar effects and the rising drums add to the brilliance of this brawny and delightful rock sensation.
